Vicious Victor Ortiz Bookmark and Share

Now that Victor Ortiz scored a sensational win against previously undefeated Andre Berto, he becomes a welterweight champion. He does have an awesome story growing up in a very dysfunctional setting. It just goes to show that boxing can take you to a better path in life. He worked hard, got criticized for his poor performance against Marcos Maidana and look at him now… Focus won it for him… a sign of better things to come!  Read More →

Maidana the winner, Morales the story! Bookmark and Share

Marcos Maidana beat Erik Morales on a majority decision on what could be a fight of the year. The star of the night was Morales though, who showed dignity, heart and courage. He proved that there is a Rocky Balboa in him!   GREAT FIGHT AND THIS IS WHY I LOVE BOXING!  Read More →

Sergio Martinez fights again Bookmark and Share

The best Middleweight in the world, Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez fights again this Saturday after a scintillating win over Paul Williams. He faces Ukranian Sergiy Dzinziruk in what could be a stinker of a stylistic bout. Will this be a stinker because of the clash of styles? It could be. But Sergio Martinez is an all action fighter if you decide to slug it out. Do not be deceived by his good looks, the guy can hit like a mule. In the end he will be too strong, too fast and too crafty for the undefeated but smaller Dzinziruk. I got Martinez by a wide Unanimous decision. He will box him all day and there will be blood. I predict some good highlights but it wouldn’t match in terms of excitement to the Cotto-Mayorga bout happening on the same night. yours, TRAINLIKEABOXER PREDICTIONS BELOW PLEASE!!  Read More →

Cotto contra Mayorga Bookmark and Share

March 12th, there will be fireworks! Miguel Cotto and Ricardo Mayorga poses questions. It’s a compelling match-up that I predict to be all action. How will Miguel Cotto respond to Mayorga’s relentless assault? The way he backed off against Antonio Margarito or Manny Pacquiao? How can Mayorga match up with Cotto’s superb boxing skills? Both have been down in the past, who would last longer? These are just the questions one would ask before this Saturday’s bout. I’m gonna give it to Cotto, really skillful, too much power and so smart. Mayorga has seen better days but he sure does make pre-fight hype so entertaining. Saturday, trash-talking ends and fists will fly. Miguel Cotto by 9th round TKO! VIVA PUERTO RICO!!!! Yours, Lawrence Ragos p.s. Post your predictions in my blog page below!!  Read More →

Nonito Donaire vs Fernando Montiel Bookmark and Share

This Saturday’s fight between Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire and Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel is one of the most anticipated fights in the smaller weight divisions. Both come in amazing boxing shape all the time and both have won titles in multiple divisions. As you know, if boxing training is superb, the fight is superb! With Montiel you are thinking of a Mexican-style Tyson— always coming in for shots. Donaire on the other hand is crafty with a combination of speed and power. Both guys box smart and both can hit very hard. In the end I’m gonna give it to Donaire. He’s too long and knows how to use his distance well. It will be an EXCITING fight that will make you fall in love with the smaller divisions! TRAINLIKEABOXER VERDICT: DONAIRE 8TH RD TKO! There’s going to be tense moments between the two but in the end, Donaire’s reach, power and craftiness will be too much for the older Montiel to handle. TRAINLIKEABOXER... [Read More]

Totally random: Manny Pacquiao’s Justin Bieber haircut Bookmark and Share

Here is Manny Pacquiao’s Justin Bieber-esque haircut on his first press tour in LA for his fight with Shane Mosley today. I am not a big fan of the fight, but it is what it is. The fight will have some pre-fight hype in the form of FightCamp360 which will be shown on CBS and Showtime.  Read More →

The SuperFight: Bradley vs Alexander Bookmark and Share

This Saturday marks the first big fight of 2011 and I am lucky to see it live at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan. You got two young and undefeated champions duking it out in one of the most anticipated match ups of the year. Timothy Bradley is a slick orthodox fighter who can win fights because of his experience and ring smarts. Devon Alexander is a slick, fast, counter puncher who can pack some power as well. Analyzing the match up, it’s hard to pick a winner. But I have to give it to Devon Alexander. Bradley hasn’t fought a lot of southpaws in his career and even though he has experience fighting top notch competition he hasn’t fought a fighter as good as Devon Alexander—- an EXCEPTIONAL SOUTHPAW. TRAINLIKEABOXER Verdict: Alexander UD 12 What’s your prediction?!?!?!!!! www.trainlikeaboxer.com/dvd for the best boxing training DVD out there!  Read More →

Jean Pascal vs Bernard Hopkins Bookmark and Share

Let me just say, Quebec is an awesome fight province. Boxing is so alive over there— be it Quebec City or Montreal. Jean Pascal’s fight against Bernard Hopkins would be one of the best fights in the boxing history of Canada. It’s hard to bet against the old man Hopkins. Time and again, he proves that he can still do it. The guy is a fitness machine. He is very smart, elusive and boy he fights dirty. Jean Pascal is a crafty fighter who can muscle you down with strength or confuse you with his speed. Hopkins’ experience might be vital in determining a winner for this fight. VERDICT I gotta give it to Hopkins although I’d like to see him hang it up. He will look to frustrate Pascal with his tactics en route to a Unanimous Decision. I’m cheering for the young guy to win but as I said, it’s just hard to bet against the Executioner! Lawrence Ragos p.s. Follow me on twitter —>> @trainlikeaboxer  Read More →
